Tennis Career
Ruaraidh learnt to play at the Bordeaux Club in 1991 and in 1992 he took over as professional. He continued his training at the Oratory between 1993 and 1995. During 1995 he spent some time at the Melbourne Club and returned to the UK and the Holyport Tennis Club where he stayed until 1997. These positions proved to be a successful combination of apprenticeships.
As a junior Ruaraidh won the British Under 21s and the British Under 24s singles and doubles titles - twice. Senior tour victories include the Australian, French, British and US Open doubles titles along with winning the National League for Holyport in 1998.
Ruaraidh's self-belief, positive attitude and impressive volleying make him a tough competitor and at his age there is a lot of improvement to come.
Having recovered from a serious knee operation and 3 years working outside of tennis Ruaraidh has returned to the game and is currently in Australia working at the Royal Melbourne Tennis club and training with the current world champion Rob Fahey.
Ruaraidh had the best tournament of his career at the British Open in November 2003. In the quarter finals he beat Tim Chisholm followed by a win against Chris Bray in the semi finals. In the doubles partnered by Rob Fahey he won the British Open Doubles.
In 2010 Ruaraidh won the Australian Open Singles defeating Rob Fahey and won the Doubles partnered by Rob Fahey.
In his last season, 2011, we did not see Ruaraidh travelling outside of Australia and he was a quarter finalist in the Australian Open Singles losing to Ben Matthews and a semi finalist in the Doubles partnered by Chris Chapman and losing to Rob Fahey and Steve Virgona. In the World Championship Doubles, partnered by Chris Chapman, lost in the semi finals to Ben Matthews and Julian Snow.
